Flagship course
UK Invoice Compliance Audit
A six-module programme for finance and AP professionals who need a defensible way to sample invoices, test VAT completeness, and record findings inside an invoice compliance audit app.
What you will be able to do
- Draft a risk-based sample plan tied to supplier volume and VAT exposure
- Test mandatory invoice fields against UK expectations
- Code exceptions so remediation owners know the next step
- Export a clean findings log from the audit app for management review
- Brief non-finance colleagues without drowning them in jargon
- Recognise when an issue needs advisor input rather than another spreadsheet
Who it suits
AP supervisors, practice staff supporting SMEs, and internal auditors who already know basic double-entry but want a sharper compliance lens on invoices.
Honest limitation
This course does not replace regulated tax advice. Edge cases involving international supplies, reverse charge disputes, or partial exemption still need a qualified advisor.
Modules
-
01
Scoping the audit
Define period, systems in scope, and what “complete” means for your organisation before you open a single PDF.
-
02
Sampling that you can defend
Build strata for high-value, new, and historically noisy suppliers—and write down why other invoices were left alone.
-
03
VAT and field completeness
Walk through checks for registration details, tax points, and narrative descriptions that fail under light scrutiny.
-
04
Exception coding in the audit app
Use severity tags and owner fields so findings do not die in a shared inbox.
-
05
Remediation and re-test
Close the loop with evidence of fixes and a lightweight re-sample when risk warrants it.
-
06
Reporting for boards and advisors
Produce a short narrative that sits on top of the findings export—clear enough for people who will not open every attachment.

Module 02’s sampling template is what we still use quarterly. The later reporting video felt a bit long for my taste, but the export checklist saved us from missing owner fields.

Solid on UK field checks. Wish there were more examples from construction reverse charge—still worth it for the audit app walkthrough alone.

FAQ
Do I need the Webplatformsync audit app to finish the course?
No. Exercises include spreadsheet alternatives. The app path is recommended if you want exportable findings logs, but every learning outcome can be practised without it.
Is this suitable for someone new to VAT?
You should know the basics of how VAT appears on purchase invoices. Absolute beginners may find Module 03 dense; we suggest a short VAT primer first.
How current is the material for United Kingdom rules?
Core modules are reviewed at least twice a year. Material dated in the resource pack shows the last review month so you can see what has changed.
What is a real limitation of this programme?
We do not simulate a live HMRC enquiry. You will practise internal audit technique and documentation quality, not courtroom-style dispute handling.
